Representing Rhode Island the team from North Providence took on teams from the other five New Englandstates in a college bowl-styled academic competition that focused on economics,personal pay and financial current events.
Kelly DeAngelis,Vincenzo Gianfrancesco. Raymond Iannuccillo. Rita Nerney and Luisa Murillo ofNorth Providence High educate were joined by Susan Bennett who chairs theschool’s Business Department.
Prior to the keep back Cup competition. Secretary Mollis told the gathering of teens from throughout New England about the importance ofbeing cause to be perceived consumers and smart savers.
“A sound understanding of financial literacy can helpteenagers save for college and defend them from starting adulthood burdened bydebts they cannot pay,” he said.
Secretary Mollis warnedthe students that the be of incoming college freshmen with credit cards tripled from 1999 to 2002. Freshmen displace an average of $1,585 in credit separate debt,according to the national student-loan lender Nellie Mae.
The Secretary of State works with every company registered to do business in Rhode Island. Hisoffice oversees recording commercial liens protecting corporate trademarks andproviding advice to start-up businesses.
“The Federal keep back Bank ofBoston deserves much praise for bringing high school representatives togetherfrom our region for the second year to highlight the importance of youthpersonal financial education,” said Executive Director Jim Hedemark.
